Research
Development of new materials involves controlling chemical reactions, in which many elementary steps usually participate. From detailed theoretical analysis of the dynamics (variation in potential energy and atomic structure) and kinetics (reaction rate) of each elementary step, the important elementary steps can be identified, and the whole process modeled. Such analysis will provide knowledge of the relevant reaction mechanisms, and shed light into how to achieve a target material in practice.
